Trustees

The Chairman of the Charitable Trust is usually a past-Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Trustees are drawn from senior individual Members or Fellows of the Institute and there are several independent local business people, all of whom bring a blend of experience to the work of The Charitable Trust.

Chairman
AJ Beale, OBE, MA, Hon FCIM, Chartered Marketer

 

Jim Beale is a graduate of Edinburgh University and is married with two adult children. Three separate career segments have covered commissioned service in the Royal Scots, brand management with Procter & Gamble, and management consultancy with the PA Consultancy Group.

His association with CIM dates back to 1968, when he was elected as a member. He has been Chairman of two separate CIM Branches (Northern Ireland 1975-76, and North East of England (1983-1984) and was National Chairman in 1990-1991. He was elected Honorary Fellow of the Institute in 1991.

He has been a Trustee of The Charitable Trust since 1988, and its Chairman since 1991. He is also Chairman of the Trustees of both the CIM Pension Fund and the Members' Benevolent Fund.

He was awarded the OBE in 1997 for services to education.

green box Geoffrey Blacker, OBE, CPFA
 

Geoffrey Blacker is an "independent" member of the CIM Charitable Trust Board of Trustees, having been appointed to the Board in January 1996.

He is retired from full-time employment, but is a Trustee for several local and national charities. An accountant, he was formerly Chief Executive and Director of Finance for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

Geoffrey was appointed OBE in 1996 for services to Local Government.

 

green box Professor David Chapman, MSc, FCIM, Chartered Marketer
 

David Chapman has been an associate at Lincoln University since 2002, is visiting professor at Sheffield Hallam University and has worked with several Universities overseas.

David has worked in consultancy in marketing and business development in companies in business-to-business markets and has advised over 200 companies. He has held the post of Managing Director of Adams Chapman Ltd since 1982.

He was elected Fellow of the CIM in 1984 and in 1998 was elected Chairman of the Institute having previously held the offices of Treasurer and Vice Chairman. In 1998 he was the first person to be conferred with the new designation, Chartered Marketer, and in 1999 he was awarded Honorary Fellowship. He also holds the President's Award. David has been a Trustee since 1998.

Mary Davies is Managing Director of Kinghorn~Davies Advertising Limited, and has held several non-executive directorships in the North east of England.

She has had a long association with CIM which has included being Chairman of the North East of England Branch (1986-1987), International Vice Chairman (1999-2001) National Treasurer (2000-2001) and is currently Chairman of the Audit & Finance Committee.Mary was elected a Fellow of the Institute in 1999 and holds the President's Award. She has been a Trustee of The Charitable Trust since 1999.

Keith Hurley is an "independent" member of the CIM Charitable Trust Board of Trustees, having been appointed to the Board in April 2006.

Keith is Senior Partner of a long established local firm of Chartered Accountants. He is a CEDR accredited commercial mediator, and also sits as a Magistrate in Reading. He is married with four grown up children and his interests include tennis, golf and theatre.

Tom Mason, BSc(Eng), MBA, FCIM

 

Tom Mason is a Graduate of Civil Engineering from King’s College, London and practiced as a Civil engineer in the UK and Nigeria, West Africa. In 1972 Tom graduated from Cranfield School of Management with an MBA and spent a period as a Strategic Planner before setting up in partnership with Christian Salvesen Plc, supplying ‘hazardous and specialised cleaning services’. In the mid 1980 ‘s on the sale of this business Tom joined the Aberdeen Business School of the Robert Gordon University, where he is now Director of the MBA programme, lectures in Strategic Management and researches in Consumer Psychology. He travels widely on behalf of the University, mainly to China.

Tom sits on a number of Boards and Advisory Committees. He has been associated with the CIM since 1985, having been Chairman of the Scottish region and on the National Council. He has been a Trustee of the CIM Charitable Trust since 2000.

Walter McGregor, MCIB

 

Walter MacGregor is an "independent" member of the CIM Charitable Trust Board of Trustees, having been appointed to the Board in 1991.

Walter has worked for a major banking institution for 40 years and is currently a senior manager within its credit risk function. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland.

 

Secretary

Margot Connor

 

Margot has worked for The Chartered Institute of Marketing at Moor Hall for 15 years, and is married with three adult children. Her current role is Personal Assistant to the General Manager and Assistant to the Company Secretary.

She has been the Secretary of The Charitable Trust since October 2004, and prior to that acted for many years as administrator/minute taker for the previous Trust Secretary. She is also Secretary to the CIM Members' Benevolent Fund.

Margot is based full time at Moor Hall and is the first point of contact for applicants wishing to apply for funding from the CIM Charitable Trust.
